GAME 02, SEASON 2015

DELAYED START

It is the second game of the season and once again we were facing the Toronto Mavericks. But that’s where the similarities ended. With the game being delayed due to sprinkler system malfunction we were forced to play a 20-Twenty game against the revamped Toronto Mavericks team.

TOSS

The Toss was won by Punjabi Warriors who elected to field. Salman Nazer who had caused havoc last week did not disappoint once again. After bowling the first 2 deliveries wide down the leg side he honed in on his target with a well-directed In-swinging Yorker leading to an LBW decision and giving the Punjabi Warriors the early breakthrough they needed. On the other end Rajbir Sidhu intimated the new batsman with his pace and bouncers and kept the run-rate to a minimum.

MISFIELD

Middle innings saw contributions from both the medium pacer and the spinners, Harcharan Singh picking up 2 wickets, Mandeep Tulli and Salman Nazeer each picking up a wickets at crucial time to prevent the Mavericks from cutting loose and posting a big total. There was a spark of life from the Mavericks with the help of poor fielding effort by the Punjabi warriors towards the end of their innings to post a total of 143/8 after 20 Overs.

THE FINISH, THE STYLE

Faced with a mediocre target, Rammy Singh and Shayam Preet decided to flex their muscles by dealing exclusively in boundaries to reach 23 and 19 runs respectively. This gave the Punjabi Warriors the base they needed to accelerate. After getting off to a rocky start, Salman Nazar and the skipper Amandeep Singh put on an absolute brilliant batting display. From the unorthodox shot selection of Salam Nazar which featured him walking away from the stumps and dil-scooping the ball towards third man for a four to Amandeep Singh’s textbook cover drive and pull shots which left the spectators speechless, the pair picked apart the Mavericks bowling attack and chased the total down with ease. Salman Nazar contributing 32* at a SR of 123.08 and Amandeep Singh blistering 63* at a SR of 150, finished off the game in just 17.1 Overs.

Up next are the Indian Royals CC, good luck Boys!
